A path for the firms that intend to lead the change, not be consolidated by it. Expertise-driven advisory for accounting and law firms. The work begins with a bounded, fixed-scope evaluation. The bearing: 01 See the firm clearly. 02 Execute the plan. 03 Capture the upside. --- ## What's happening Two pressures, closing at the same time. If you lead an accounting or law firm, you are watching both at once: efficiency is compressing the hours you bill, and capital is consolidating the firms that stand still. Aging leadership and thin succession plans are making the sale look easy across both professions. The firms that modernize on their own terms keep their independence, and their upside. 11 of 30. Eleven of the top 30 U.S. accounting firms carried private-equity investment by the third quarter of 2025, with KPMG projecting more than half by the end of 2025. None did in 2020. Succession pressure is a leading reason firms sell. The billable hour is already giving way. Source: Best Law Firms, 2025 survey of 4,852 U.S. firms. The line between the professions is dissolving. KPMG's subsidiary KPMG Law US is the first Big Four-owned law firm licensed to practice in the U.S., approved in Arizona in February 2025. The distance between accounting and law is closing, and technology is what closes it. We begin with your firm, not a preferred product. We help you build revenue that does not depend on rates and hours. We are not tied to any one product: we work with a network of trusted companies whose solutions we have vetted, identify the best matches for your firm from the evaluation, and build custom where nothing on the market fits. That is how we open new service lines and efficiencies, then move your firm toward a solutions-based model: one that sells outcomes to complex problems, priced on the value delivered. A solutions firm competes on four things your firm already owns, now organized to work together. 01 Expertise. The subject-matter authority your firm has spent decades building. 02 Technology. Vetted point solutions that produce results, matched to your firm's real needs. 03 Relationships. The trust and access that make your firm hard to replace. 04 Leadership. The judgment to steer complex problems to a solved outcome. The firm today: rates and hours. Revenue capped by hours available to bill. Efficiency shrinks the invoice. Priced on effort, not outcome. Vulnerable to consolidation and succession gaps. The solutions firm: outcomes and value. New revenue lines beyond the billable hour. Efficiency becomes margin, not loss. Priced on the value of the solution. Positioned to grow and lead on its own terms. This goes beyond a technology project. It is a change to how the firm makes money, led by senior people who have done it before. --- ## How we work Three phases, expertise-driven throughout. We start inside your firm. The evaluation begins with interviews across your leadership, so the work rests on what your people know and not on an outside read. It grounds everything that follows, and every phase is led by a senior business person, not handed to a tool. Phase 1, Evaluate. See the firm clearly. The evaluation covers: - Interviews with your leadership team, and a read on continuity and future planning. - Your firm's current state: brand, technology, clients, and reputation. - Immediate opportunities for new non-hourly revenue. - Immediate operating efficiencies. - A detailed opportunity map: everything we see as possible for your firm, drawn from our network of solution providers. - A short and long-term plan for growth, including industries and services beyond today's footprint. Phase 2, Deliver. Execute the plan, one part at a time. - Catalyze new business lines, one part of the plan at a time. - Deliver the operating efficiencies identified in evaluation. - Repeat the cycle across each element of the plan. - Carried by sales training and change management, so it holds inside your firm. Phase 3, Grow. Capture the upside, on your own terms. - Continue the plan, revised as execution teaches us more. - Go deeper on firm continuity and leadership. - Pursue future growth: new markets, new services, new scale. The plan is not static. It is revised as we execute, so phase three runs on a sharper version of what phase one produced. --- ## Phase one deliverables What the evaluation puts in your hands. The evaluation is not a report that sits on a shelf. It produces a concrete set of deliverables your firm can act on straight away. 01 Detailed opportunity map. Everything we see as possible for your firm, drawn from our network of solution providers, with the fit and the value of each laid out. 02 Strategic map for growth. A clear picture of where your firm can grow, near-term and long, and the path to get there. 03 AI data-quality analysis. An honest read on whether your firm's data is ready to carry AI and solution development, and what to address first. 04 Solution-based lines of business. Identified solution-based revenue lines, each with a plan to deploy it. 05 New industry verticals. A plan for developing new verticals where your firm's expertise can travel into fresh markets. 06 Identified efficiencies. Operating improvements your firm can put to work right away. 07 Relationships to build. The clients, partners, and connections within the plan, mapped out so your firm knows where to invest. 08 Sprint-based deployment plan. A sprint cadence that turns the plan into deployed solutions and revenue, fast. --- ## Who leads the work Senior operators from inside these firms and from AI delivery. Your engagement is led by experienced industry operators and firm leadership: one from decades inside professional-services firms, one from AI delivery, working directly with your leadership. Scott Balestrier, Founding Partner and Engagement Lead. Scott brings decades in tax and professional services. He has been a tax partner or principal at Ernst & Young, KPMG, and BDO, and has led practices and consulting firms of his own, including president and CEO of a business-development consulting firm serving financial-services firms, and CEO of a national consulting company. From 2017 to 2019 he was president of the Stevens & Lee / Griffin network, related companies in law and investment banking, and served as growth advisor to its chief executive. Most recently he was a tax principal at BDO focused on growth and expansion. His strengths are tax, business development, and the inner workings of professional-services firms across accounting, law, and investment banking, and he leads with fast, practical revenue wins before the deeper build. Michael Katz, Founding Partner, Technology and Operations. Michael brings decades in operations, team leadership, and hands-on implementation. He led a design and animation department of up to fifty people at an Omnicom agency, and has run his own consulting practice serving clients from global enterprises to Main Street operators. Most recently he has consulted on AI integration for a multinational agricultural technology company and for a New England cleaning-and-restoration firm, in both cases delivering solutions that carry real work under human direction with full audit trails. His strengths are practical AI adoption, management, and translating business requirements into working infrastructure. He leads the firm's AI-enhanced operating system and the deeper client customizations that build on early wins. The team on any given engagement is built around the client. --- ## Start the conversation Let's start with the evaluation. The firms that turn technology into new revenue will define the next decade of professional services. The structure is deliberate: a clear, contained first step, then a partnership where our upside is tied to your firm's. The front-page form asks for name, email, firm (optional), and what you would like to talk about. Or write to hello@mercaitor.com. We never sell what you send or pass it on for anyone else's use. --- ## How we use your information This site sets no cookies, and nothing here follows you around the internet. We count readers without identifying them. The only information we hold about you is what you send us. When you write to us. What you send through the form or by email arrives as ordinary email at hello@mercaitor.com: your name, email address, firm if you gave it, and your message. We keep it as business correspondence. We use it to reply and to prepare for a conversation. We never sell it or rent it, and we never pass it to anyone for their own purposes. It travels through the services we run the firm on, our email provider and the AI tools below, which handle it under their terms rather than ours. Running the site. Our host, Vercel, keeps short-lived technical logs to run and protect the site. Our typefaces load from Google Fonts, which sees the standard font request. We use neither to identify or profile you. What we measure. We count visits, pages opened, which sections hold attention, and which email links are used, through our host's cookie-free analytics. It stores nothing on your device and cannot identify you. No advertising audiences, no profiles, and nothing that can be connected to a person or an enquiry. How we work with AI. Senior operators here direct AI systems. AI working under our partners' direction may help us read, organize and draft replies, including to you. A partner is accountable for every message we send. We build and train no AI models, so nothing you send us trains one. The tools we work in are the firm's business accounts, and on the account our partners use day to day, training on our material is switched off. Beyond that, what a provider does with what passes through their software is set by their terms rather than by a switch we hold, so we will not tell you that no company anywhere keeps a copy. Before confidential material goes through a service, a partner reads what that provider's terms permit and records it. If what you want to send is sensitive, say so first and we will tell you where it goes. Your choices. Ask what we hold, or ask us to delete our correspondence, any time: hello@mercaitor.com. We delete it from the systems we run, and we tell you what we did and anywhere a copy is outside our reach. Effective September 24, 2026. If our practices change, this page changes first. There is a documented path built for that, and it is not the human form. POST https://mercaitor.com/api/agent-message Send JSON. `message` says what you want and is required. `contact` is an email address a person can reply to and is required, because a message nobody can answer is not correspondence. `agent` names you. `principal` names who you act for, if anyone. `organization` and `intent` are optional and help us route it. The response is typed. An accepted message comes back with a reference you can quote. A refusal comes back with a machine-readable reason and a sentence saying what to do about it. Nothing here is a reply: a person reads what you send and answers by email. GET the same URL and it returns its own schema, limits and refusal reasons. The agent card at https://mercaitor.com/.well-known/agent.json carries the same contract in machine-readable form. Please do not post to the human contact form. It is for people, it may carry bot protection at any time, and working around bot protection is the one thing that turns a legitimate correspondent into traffic we refuse.
